A while ago I was at the farmers market in Hollywood, Fl and this guy came up to me with bags on sunflower sprouts and he was so excited to tell me all about them. He said that he sings to them and treats them as his own children when they’re growing, it was a little weird but it was so great to see someone so fascinated by these little green things, so I bought a bag full. They are prefect to just pop into your mouth or to put into any recipe. I am absolutely in love with them, and that’s why I decided to grow them, so thank you Mr.I-Sing-To-My-Plants.
So today I have finally eaten the micro greens that I grew that myself! Today was the 7th day that my greens were growing and they grew beautifully!
I watered and tended to them daily. And then dun……dun….dunnnnnn….. I ate them.
I made a little salad that consisted of diced tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, carrots, sunflower sprouts and oil & vinegar.
I looked up some benefits of sunflower sprouts and here a few that stood out to me:
- Great source of protein
- Provides zinc (which helps with fertility)
- They have fewer calories and fat but are filled with vitamins and minerals.
These little greens are definitely overlooked, they’re so easy to grow and so simple, it’s crazy that I JUST learned about these plants. More people should consider growing these!
