3 Things to Look For in a Wedding Photographer
Jacob and I went crazy looking over different vendors and everything that we wanted for our wedding. Well, mainly I went crazy and I was probably driving him crazy. We were looking for an affordable photographer but also gorgeous photos. Basically, we just really wanted the most bang for our buck. If you’re the same, then follow these 3 things to look for in a wedding photographer and hopefully it will help you out!
There are tons of great photographers throughout Georgia and this post is in no way dismissing any of those photographers.
I have heard tons of horror stories about crappy photographers and I feel so bad for those people! This is one of the most special days of your life, you need to have awesome photos. Hopefully by sticking to these 3 things, you can find the best photographer for your wedding.
3 things to look for in a wedding photographer:
Obviously we were not going to pay for a photographer that didn’t provide quality photos. I spent days looking over ceremony photos, reception photos and everything in between. I was looking for photos that I really connected with, photos that really told a story. I know it may sound tedious, but in order to find your perfect photographer, you’re going to have to look through all of their photos. Many photographers have a “highlight reel” that showcases their best photos but going through more photos never hurt!
We were torn between two photographers. One photographer was cheaper but because of this the quality suffered. The other photographer ended up being our wedding photographer, Andrea. She was a little bit more expensive BUT the quality was absolutely there.
Andrea’s photos connected with me on so many levels. I’m not well versed in photography language but wow, all her photos are absolutely perfect. She stayed on top of me, helped to come up with a timeline and helped with figuring out what photos were important to us. She is so dedicated to her work and it shows in everything that she does.
In an effort to stick to our budget, we really struggled with finding a photographer. Everything was planned out on an Excel spreadsheet and we were doing pretty good with our spending. As we started to get closer to the wedding date we did realize that we were overspending just a little, which was definitely my fault. But our wedding was so amazing, it’s okay.
To be honest, our photographer was out of our budget, but we had to. After looking over all types of packages and photographers throughout the state, we realized how much it really costed. The prices are steep, but I completely understand. We decided to stretch our budget a bit to get the quality that we wanted.
If you find yourself struggling with your budget, then sit down with your soon to be spouse and redo your budget. It is perfectly okay for it to change throughout the wedding planning process, this is not set in stone. After looking over the prices of what things really cost, redo your budget and make it work for you.
This was really important for us. It’s so awkward to stand in front of a camera, it’s even worst when you’re not comfortable around your photographer!
We mainly used The Knot for booking all of our vendors. The best thing about this is that you can see reviews and start a conversation with a vendor on the website.
You end up spending a good amount of time with your photographer on your wedding day, so it is pretty important that your personalities match.
Andrea literally went above and beyond, she was so sweet every step of the way and we really connected with her. Starting with our engagement photos even through now she has been perfect. If I had a question about the wedding in general I was able to text her and she was so quick to respond and give her insight.
For us, these were the most important things to look for in a wedding photographer, quality, affordability and personality. For you, it may be different, but if you start with these 3 things it will definitely help you.
Our engagement Photos:
Our first set of engagement photos
So we actually had two sets of engagement photos done.
One first set was done by Molly E. Photography.
These photos went well. It was an extremely hot Georgia afternoon and we were sweating A LOT. I’ve shared some of the photos already but here they are again. She gave us the photos in a timely manner which we really appreciated.
The location is Savannah Rapids in Augusta, Georgia.

Our second set of engagement photos
These photos were done by our wedding photographer, Andrea-Marie.
We only did another session because they came with the wedding photos so, why not?
I sent Andrea an email and I received this message back:
First of all CONGRATULATIONS!! This is such a beautiful and exciting season, and I feel honored you are considering bringing me along to capture and document this special time for you two!! And Yonah Mountain is so beautiful!
I am also getting married next year.. October 26th, 2019!! With that being said, I will not be available that weekend. BUT should you happen to pick another date, please let me know 🙂
Here are the breakdown of my packages: They all include a complimentary engagement session, which we could book when I am up in Minnesota soon! And all of my packages can be customized to your needs and budget. Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂
Seriously, how sweet?!
Originally our wedding date was October 25th but we ended up changing that date and because of how personable she was, we just had to book her.
She was so amazingly patient with me leading up to the photo-shoot and we were amazed. We were so nervous,( okay, I was mainly the one that was nervous). It’s always a little weird to just kiss in front of a camera but Andrea was like our cheerleader and she definitely made us feel so much more comfortable.
At the end of our engagement photos I was so happy and not at all worried for our wedding when it came to how the photos would come out.
Here are some of our photos from that session. We changed our outfits once, so one formal wear and one casual. Picking out our outfits was a little difficult but we wore clothes that we always use and it turned perfect.
The location is Sope Creek Mill Ruins in Marietta, Georgia.
These photos are gorgeous, right?!
After receiving these we were so in love and couldn’t wait for our wedding day.
When the day of our wedding finally came, I was so stressed out. I hardly ate and I was just anxious. Andrea came to the venue all cool, calm and collected and it was such a breath of fresh air! Even our family had nothing but great things to say about her.
She made sure everything was perfect, she did things that went above and beyond what a photographer had to do. We couldn’t have hired a better photographer for our wedding.
Our wedding photos:
Andrea is an angel. She made our wedding so special and I cannot thank her enough for all the work that she put into it.
