2019 – A Year to be Better

Happy New Year!

I have taken a tiny hiatus because I was spending some quality time with my fiance (it was amazing). But now school is starting back up and it’s time to get back into the rhythm of things.

Now, I’m not one to make resolutions but there are some things that I have been wanting to change in my life and I’m going to share those with you!

  1. Read a book a month
    1. When I write it down or say it out loud it doesn’t really sound like much of anything, but it is. My fiance has this amazing ability to read through so many books and honestly, I’m jealous. I used to be that little girl in elementary/middle school that had the biggest & heaviest book bag because it was filled with books. But that’s just not the case anymore. My room is still filled with books, but now it takes me so long to get through them. Now I am determined to finish one book a month. For January I am starting with Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer. I’ll let you guys know how it is in Feburary!
  1. Go to more fitness classes
    1. Thankfully, I have access to free gyms and free fitness classes and I haven’t taken advantage of them. So for 2019, I want to get into shape and be the best that I can be physically. So classes that I will be attending with be TurboKick, Cycling and yoga!
  1. Maintain control of the food I eat
    1. This one is hard for me, I love to eat…. EVERYTHING. But it is important to me to eat foods that are good for my body. So my fiance and I have eliminated bread (except sourdough), dairy, alcohol and desserts. So we are loving sourdough bread and eggs right now.

I hope you all have an amazing New Year and if you have any resolution type ideas for this year feel free to share!

How we stay connected

Currently Jacob and I are working on a semi-long distance relationship, given, we do see each other on the weekends, but even that is difficult. It’s really hard, at least for me, to go on throughout the week without him. But we have come up with some ways to stay connected throughout this distance and I’m going to share them with you!

  • Phone Calls
    • This is an obvious one but I think it still needs to be addressed. Jacob and I call each other every chance we get. Waking up in the morning, on our way to work, during our breaks, leaving work and we ensure we have FaceTime dates at night. Honestly, sometimes this can be just a tad bit annoying. For example, I might get busy with something and start stressing out and answering the phone isn’t really something I want to do, BUT after our phone calls I always feel so much better. They are definitely worth it.
  • Audio messages
    • When Jacob and I cannot talk over the phone I leave audio messages and he always receives a lot of those! I have learned that audio messages are extremely beneficial to both our relationship but also for me. It’s like a diary, I tell him what I’m thinking, what has happened to me and everything in between. It is very therapeutic.
  • Nightly devotionals
    • This is definitely the most important one. I think it is extremely important that Jacob and I push each other to be better Christians and do devotionals together. So at the end of our FaceTime dates, before we say goodnight, I bring out my devotion journal and my nightstand Bible. We read the devotion and reflect on what the message was.  I think this is crucial to being closer and maintaining our relationship.

Semi-long distance is not fun, I will be the first to say it, but it’s important to work through it and put in a lot of effort!

If you have any tips or advice I would love to hear all about it!

Have a great day,

Love,

Olly, Undeniable beauty

Every girl (for the most part) wants perfect skin, strong nails and silky smooth hair, I am definitely part of this population. For a while now I have been playing with the idea of buying some biotin vitamins, I was just unsure as to which brand I should buy. I finally gave in and decided to buy Olly’s Undeniable Beauty grapefruit vitamins for hair, skin and nails. As the directions say I took 2 gummies a day for a month. They taste amazing and I’d really love to just eat them all at one time. You obviously don’t see results right away so I completely forgot about monitoring my results.

It wasn’t until yesterday that I realized that it most definitely gave me acne. My vitamins ran out about a week ago and I didn’t buy a new pack because I just wasn’t sure. My mother commented several times that I was breaking out and I didn’t really think about the gummies causing this… but it has to be, right?!

My acne isn’t severe nor is it gross, so I decided to give it another month. And luckily GNC was having a special where you buy one you get the next half off so I just had to buy two.

I’ll let you guys know what happens. I am really happy that my nails have grown stronger though. Before if my nails grew long they were weak and would unfortunately break. So let’s see what happens!

Let me know if you guys know anything about these or have any insight! I’d love to hear.

Have a great Tuesday!

Yes to Homemade Pickled Jalapenos!

Guys! This is a must!

I have recently discovered that I am obsessed with pickled jalapenos, my family goes through jars like water. So I decided it was time to make some myself. My brother and sister in law were actually raving about how good homemade jalapenos are so it was time to try it out.

Okay so you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • about 8 jalapenos
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • a pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Mason jar

Honestly this is the easiest thing I have probably ever made.

All you do is add all of your ingredients except for the jalapenos into a pot and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling then you can add your jalapenos and remove it from the heat. I left it for about 10 minutes.

And once its cooled you can just add it to your jar. Make sure you first add your jalapenos and then as much of the brine as you can.

I hope you guys try this out! What I love about this is that you can add anything you want in it like the red pepper flakes, oregano, and sweet peppers.

Enjoy and have a great Monday!

Farmhaus fail?

Farhmhaus Burgers has two locations in Augusta, Georgia.  They boast that they use local products (which I am on board with) and they do use organic products as well. Since I’ve moved to the CSRA I’ve always wanted to visit this restaurant. And today was the day.

Going in I was confused, I always thought it was a normal restaurant where you sit down and order, but instead you take a menu and order in line, take your number and then sit down and wait for your food. It has a Chipotle vibe, probably because of how it is decorated but it reminded me of Shake Shack.

The girl at the register was extremely nice and helped my pick out what was best for me. I got their veggie burger with sweet potato tots. fullsizerender-1

It was on an organic wheat bread which was pretty good. I added Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, pickled jalapenos, a garlic ailoi sauce and avocado. I don’t know exactly what was in my burger but it was made with quinoa and beans, that’s for sure. And it was good, it did fall apart though and I had to eat it with a utensil. The sweet potato tots were a complete fail, I was truly disappointed, I don’t know what sauce was on the side but I wasn’t with that either. The regular fries were AWESOME though.

And this is the number 6 or “the Farmstyle”, it looked good but both my brother and father said it was just okay.

They do have shakes and floats with alcohol in them that seems pretty awesome. If I do come back to this place I’m going to have to try one out.

Overall, the place was just okay. And it’s really unfortunate I really wanted to like this place. I will probably come back, MAYBE.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Saturday.

Pho Bac, Fo’ Real

Okay guys, don’t hate me but I really don’t care for Asian food.  I know we’ve Americanized virtually every cultures food but even then I don’t care for it. But of course I love food and I’m pretty much down to try most things.

So I decided to go to Pho Bac in Evans, Georgia. I’ve been before and thought the food was alright, I mean seriously, what’s so special about some soup?

img_1591

Anyway this time I got the same thing I got last time haha shrimp noodle soup. But I did add on a Thai beer called Singha and some spring rolls.

img_1590

Oh yeah and those are crab puffs with the spring rolls. Honestly AMAZING!

This place is pretty decent. The customer service could use some improvement but as far as food it’s good. Not to diss the CSRA but Pho Bac might be the best restaurant around here.

I hope you guys have a great Saturday!
