Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s are my favorite and have been my favorite for a long time. I never thought to make homemade peanut butter cups myself, but I’m so glad that I did. They taste so much better than the store-bought stuff and you can make them in your own unique way.

I made these on Valentine’s Day, for myself, in 2016. At that time, I had not met my husband and I didn’t have a boyfriend. I am a huge advocate for “Treat yourself day”, so that’s what I did.

These are the best gifts if you do choose to share. I’m a sucker for things homemade. It shows that you invested time and put thought into making the item. Even if you aren’t looking to make something for someone else, just make them for yourself! It’s simple, easy and delicious.

My husband devours peanut butter like a madman. Don’t get me wrong, I love peanut butter too. Every once in a while, I’ll have a spoonful of peanut butter and it’s so satisfied. Now, I am a sucker for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich any day and at any time. BUT my husband, he takes it to the extreme. He adds peanut butter to his waffles, to his cereal and to anything else he thinks of. We literally have to buy a jar of peanut butter every time we go grocery shopping.

With that said, is it really good for you?

My husband eats it so much because he says, “it’s easy protein”, and he’s right. Peanut butter is said to have about 7 grams of protein per 2 tablespoons of it. According to a dietary reference intake, women are supposed to have 46 grams of protein a day. By that logic eating 14 tablespoons of peanut butter would have me set for the day!

Peanut butter also has a great amount of magnesium, which is essential for your health, phosphorus and zinc.

I’m sure you’ve realized that there are now TONS of different peanut butter and nut spread options. Even if you’re allergic to peanut butter there are alternatives, which is so amazing.

With all of these options you can choose one that fits according to your diet. Jacob and I try to limit our sugar intake. Have you ever looked at the nutritional values of peanut butter? Some of them can add hundreds of grams of sugar for no reason! We try to get the most natural peanut butter but also not break the bank. Peanut butter can also be pretty expensive.

Ingredients for your homemade peanut butter cups: 

Peanut butter


Semi-sweet chocolate chips


  1. Double broil semi-sweet chocolate chips, I used 2 cups of chips. Continuously stir the chocolate so it doesn’t burn.
  2. Line your cupcake pan with liners and put a spoonful of chocolate into each one.
  3. Then a dollop of peanut butter on top of that.
  4. Top it off with more chocolate. I did it so that I couldn’t see any peanut butter and topped it with just a pinch of salt.
  5. Put it into the freezer for about just about an hour.
  6. And YOU HAVE THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER CUPS EVER, I’m not even joking.

The coolest thing about this is that you can do anything with this recipe. You can use peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower butter, dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate there are just so many options!

***Pro-tip: To make your chocolate silkier, you can add coconut oil to the chocolate chips when you’re melting it.***
